"We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind."
Sometimes, we fail.
Sometimes, we get stuck in our sin.
Sometimes, we forget that we aren't going to be perfect.
Life is messy, and that's ok.
The psalmist writes that, regardless of our shortcomings, God is in charge. He is the creator. He is the potter and we are the clay (v. 8).
When we're feeling down and think we can't do anything right, we're reminded throughout the Bible to focus on the big picture. God is in control!
