Isaiah 40:8

May 20, 2016

I don’t belong here.

This world is not our home.

We’re just passing through.

We’ve all heard the lines and lyrics… but have we taken the time to truly appreciate what they mean? This life is temporary, but God is forever! If we choose to accept Jesus as our Savior, if we choose to believe that His death and resurrection covers our sins, if we choose to believe that this life we’re living is just the beginning, we can have complete confidence that we will spend eternity with God.

After all, Isaiah 40:8 says “the word of our God stands forever”. The “word” is the Bible, of course, but also, the word is Jesus Christ Himself. John 1:1 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”.  John 20:30-21 says “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name”. See what John did there? First, by introducing the “Word” (Jesus) in relation to creation, then by explaining that the whole purpose of the “word” (Bible) is to share the truth of the “Word” (Jesus)!

God was speaking to and through Isaiah about Jesus, our Messiah, wayyy before this world had any knowledge of the man Himself. God’s pretty awesome like that.

And if God takes care of our past, present, and future, and Jesus is preparing a place for us with Him in Heaven (John 14:1-4), then how can we really have a stake in this place called Earth?

Think about it.
