Psalm 34:8

April 8, 2016

When is the last time you “stopped to smell the roses”? That’s exactly what this lovely little verse is referring to! King David wrote the 34th Psalm to thank God for always providing him with exactly what was needed. God will do that for all of us, if we let Him.

Verse 8 encourages us to use our senses, to intentionally perceive all the goings-on around us, to recognize God’s presence in our lives. So often, we’re bombarded and overwhelmed with things and situations that we forget to just experience our lives. Savor the flavor of your favorite coffee. Smell of cinnamon rolls fresh out of the oven. Study the intricate details of a blossoming flower bud. Cuddle up in a soft blanket. Soak up the warmth of the sun on your skin. God wants us to enjoy these amazing gifts He gives us!

This life we live isn’t about being perfect or trouble-free: it’s about fully appreciating the goodness of the blessings God freely gives to each of us.

Today, take time to focus on the details of all the wonderful things we often overlook and to thank our Awesome God for every single bit of it all!
